Program description:
YP Magnetic Force simulates the magnetic force exerted on a particle moving in a magnetic field. The user can change the electric charge, the velocity and the magnetic field. The three vectors velocity, magnetic field and magnetic force are displayed in a three dimensionnal coordinate system which can be rotated in the desired orientation.
System Requirements: YP Magnetic Force runs on any Macintosh computer with MAC OS 7.0 or later. It needs about 200 Kb on your hard disk and 900 Kb of RAM. The software runs on older models with 68000 processors (Mac Plus, Mac Classic), but simulations are slower.
Program operation:
When you launch YP Magnetic Force, the main window is displayed on the screen; this window shows a diagram with the velocity "v" (in blue), the magnetic field "B" (in green) and the magnetic force "F" (in red) in a 3-D coordinate system. With scroll bars located in the other windows, it is easy to change the electric charge of the particle, its velocity, the magnetic field in which the particle moves, and the magnetic force exerted on the particle. Another set of scroll bars allows a rotation of the diagram.
╩
Theory:
The magnetic force "F" exerted on a particle with an electric charge "q" moving with a velocity "v" in a magnetic field "B" is given by this equation:

"Physics" Menu:
╩
Use this menu to:
- change the electric charge
- change the velocity
- change the magnetic field
- see the characteristics of the magnetic force
"Change Electric Charge..." item: Displays a little window showing the electric charge in Coulombs. A scroll bar allows to change this charge. The charge can take a value between -10╡C et +10╡C.
╩
"Change Velocity..." item: Displays a window showing the velocity of the particle. Three scroll bars allow to change the magnitude of the velocity, and the two angles describing its direction. The magnitude can vary from 0 to 20 m/s, and the angles vary between 0í and 360í. The x,y and z components of the velocity are also shown in this window.
╩
Convention used for the angles:
╩
"Change Magnetic Field..." item: Displays a window showing the magnetic field in which the particle moves. Three scroll bars allow to change the magnitude of the field, and the two angles describing its direction. The magnitude can vary from 0 to 20 mT, and the angles vary between 0í and 360í. The x,y and z components of the field are also shown in this window.
╩
"Magnetic Force..." item: Displays a window showing the magnitude of the magnetic force exerted on the particle, the two angles describing the direction of the force, and the three components (x,y,z) of the force.
╩
"Rotation" Menu:
╩
Use this menu to rotate the diagram in the main window.
"Rotation Window..." item: Displays a window allowing to rotate the diagram in the main window, with three scroll bars.
╩
"Convention (Angles)╔ item: Displays a window showing the meaning of angles q and f.
"Help" Menu:
╩
YP Magnetic Force supports Balloon Help. Use this menu to show or hide help balloons, and to display online help.
Ordering information:
The demo (unregistered) version of YP Magnetic Force may be freely distributed to allow anybody to try it before registering. You are permitted to upload it to an internet site, distribute it on a CD-ROM, or give a copy to a friend.
If you want to use YP Magnetic Force on a regular basis, you must pay for a user license. You will then receive an unlocking code that will allow you to personalize your copy of the program.
The unregistered version have the following limitations:
Ñ a window indicating how to order the full version is displayed at startup.
Ñ the mention "This copy is for evaluation only." is permanently displayed in the main window.
Ñ Several items from the "File" menu menu are not available.
Ñ The program quits after 10 minutes of use.
Your unlocked version will have the following advantages:
Ñ the window indicating how to order the full version is not displayed at startup.
Ñ the mention "This copy is for evaluation only." will never be displayed again in the main window.
Ñ All items from the "File" menu will be available.
Ñ The program does not quit after 10 minutes of use.
In addition, you will be able to unlock all future updates of YP Magnetic Force with the same unlocking code.
Methods of Payment:
Kagi, a company located in the United States, handles the payments for my software. You can pay by credit card (Visa, Master Card, American Express), by check or postal money order (in american dollars) or with cash. Schools located in Canada or in the United States can send me a purchase order. For more information about registering YP Magnetic Force, please read the file"How to Order".
Detailed Prices:
Single User License: A $18.00 US registration fee will license one copy of YP Magnetic Force for use on any one computer at any one time. For example, one copy may be used by any number of people and may be freely moved from one computer to another as long as there is no possibility of it being used simultaneously on more than one machine.
Site License: A license covering all computers located in the same building is available at the price of $250.00 US.
